What is the IRAM Certification?
The IRAM certification is the certification of the Argentine Standardization and Certification Institute -IRAM. Since 2002, products within the specified scope must obtain this certification in order to be legally sold in Argentina. After obtaining the certification, a mark called “Confirmed Marking” can be affixed to the product, which serves as proof of compliance.

The Importance of IRAM Certification

The significance of IRAM certification lies in that it provides consumers with assurance of product safety, and also sets the entry standards for manufacturers to enter the Argentine market. This certification not only covers the technical specifications and performance of the products, but also includes supervision and auditing of the production process to ensure that every aspect of the product, from design to production, complies with safety standards. Therefore, for enterprises planning to enter the Argentine market, obtaining IRAM certification is one of the essential steps.

Certification Scope:

The IRAM certification mainly targets electronic and electrical products, but the scope is quite broad. If your product falls into any of the following categories, it is generally necessary to consider this certification:

.• Household appliances: refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, microwave ovens, electric water heaters, etc.

  • Lighting equipment: lamps, LED driver power supplies, ballasts, etc.
  • Information technology equipment: computers, printers, routers, power adapters, chargers, etc.
  • Electronic, audio, and video equipment: televisions, audio systems, projectors, etc.
  • Electric tools: electric drills, angle grinders, welding machines, etc.
  • Electrical wires and cables: power cords, plugs and sockets, etc.
  • Low-voltage switchgear: circuit breakers, leakage protectors, etc.
  • Electric motors and tools with motors
  • Toys, personal protective equipment, elevators, lighters, etc. are also within the scope of control

Certification Process

  1. Prepare materials: This is the first and most crucial step. Usually, you need to prepare product technical specification sheets (in Spanish), circuit diagrams, Spanish version of the user manual, test reports (such as CB report or CE report), etc. All documents must be in Spanish, which is an easily overlooked but very important aspect.
  2. Product testing: Send the product to an recognized laboratory for testing. The testing standards are usually based on IEC international standards, but they will also include special requirements from Argentina. If your product already has a CB report, it may be recognized, thereby reducing some repetitive tests and saving time and costs.
  3. Factory inspection (if necessary): If you want to use the Conformity Mark on your product, a factory review is usually required to ensure that your production process can consistently and stably produce qualified products.
  4. Obtain certificate: After passing the tests and reviews, you can obtain the IRAM certification certificate, and the product can be sold in the Argentine market.

Application Period:

The application process for IRAM certification in Argentina typically takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks. Should the product quality be found non-compliant with the required standards, IRAM reserves the right to revoke the certification.
